News

Bancroft Run

We had a few more riders this year, about 20. Saturday was extremely hot and we had to contend with many downed trees from a storm that went through a few days before. A late afternoon thunderstorm soaked most of us but it was so hot that nobody really minded. Sunday was not as warm and the overnight rain made the trails smooth and dust free. It was a great weekend ! Thanks to Rick Walker and his assistant Dan Vorano for organizing the run, and to Rick’s wife Jan for hauling our extra gear in the truck.

Trail Maintenance Day

Only five people turned up but we had a good day on the trails. We cleaned up the Mine, Wolfe Lake and Egg Lake trails – there were a few large trees down.  The weather was perfect and a couple of us spent the rest of the afternoon cruising the trails. Thanks to Rick, Wilfred, Dale and Dustin for coming out.

Financial Audit

Neil Bennett suggested that an audit is in order since as an incorporated entity we have to, and it’s good practice to make sure things are in order for the new executive. We intend to do this in preparation for the AGM and are investigating what is involved. Hopefully we can get this done with a minimum of expense.

Annual General Meeting

The OVATVC’s AGM is coming up on Wed October 19 at the 7 West Motel in Carleton Place. The main agenda is to review 2005 including the financials and elect the new executive. The current exec has been in place for a couple of years and we will not be running again so all positions are open. Please come out and cast your votes, and consider taking your turn on the club executive. If you are interested in running and would like to present your platform to the club please use the website bulletin board.

Changes to Charity Run

In past years, OVATVC members informed us that they would have participated in the Charity Run for Camp Trillium if:

-the date was changed to the fall;                                                                      ( done that)

-the route was shorter;                                                                                         ( done that)

-the route was more challenging;                                                                       ( done that)

-there were bigger and better prizes.                                                                  ( done that)

You spoke – we listened – now hear from us and PARTICIPATE!!!

The run will take place from Patsy Bradley’s place east of Ompah. (see map on the Pledge Form ) on Saturday Sept 10.  This fundraiser is open to the public and riders are asked to collect pledges and/or pay a $20 entry fee to participate in the event.  There will be a BBQ after the event.

Last year, door prizes included an $80 rain suit, wind shirts, helmets, first aid kits, cooler bags and this year will be even better with a set of four ITP mud light XL tires valued at over $300 courtesy of Tom’s Air Cool Engines. Last year everyone went home with at least one prize ! What this Run also offers is satisfaction – satisfaction in knowing that your pledges and/or entry fees helped families, with children suffering from cancer, in the healing process and enhancing their quality of life.

This year we are also donating a portion of the money raised to Community Living, a charity which helps developmentally challenged children and adults in North Frontenac have an equal opportunity to participate and share in all facets of community life.
