Ottawa Valley All Terrain Vehicle Club Newsletter

February 2005

It’s time once again to start thinking about the 2005 ATV season – it’s not that far off !

News

First the bad news - the E104/4C which goes from the fish hatchery at the end of Palmerston Lake to the K&P has been permanently closed to ATVs and snowmobiles. The word is that the landowner closed it due to hassles with trail users and damage to his property. To the best of our knowledge the offending parties were not members of our club but we all pay the price in situations such as these.

The good news is that in mid January the North Frontenac Council passed a bylaw allowing 4 wheeled single seat ATV's on public roads within the township between 6 am and 11 pm. This somewhat compensates for the trail closure since we can now use the Canonto road instead. Passage of the bylaw was due in large part to the Executive’s work with the council over the last year and the strong positive turnout at the public hearing last fall. As a club we need to continue our ongoing efforts to improve ATVing in Eastern Ontario!

2005 Club Executive

Held over for another year are your 2004 club executive:

Mike Pastor - President

Dave Murphy - Vice President

Dan Murphy - Treasurer and Membership Coordinator

Rich Heslip – Secretary and Webmaster

Assisting the exec in 2005 will be:

Trailmaster – John Galway

Fundraising – Patsy Bradley

Thanks to Hugh Walford who has done a great job as our Webmaster for the last couple of years and Steve Knobel for his pioneering work as Trailmaster in 2004.

2005 Membership Fees

Membership dues for 2005 will be $130 with a $20 discount if you get your registration in by the March 16 general meeting. It’s an increase of $10 from last year but as you may remember North Frontenac surprised us with a $5 fee increase last year which left us with nothing for the club. OVATVC membership is still a great value - you are getting the North Frontenac pass ($40) and the EOTA pass ($120) for just $110 when you join up early.

February Meeting

Please come out to the meeting on February 16 and get your membership renewed. Meeting will be at 7:00 PM at the 7 West Motel, Carleton Place - north side of Highway 7 as you are entering Carleton Place from Ottawa. This is the same place we’ve met for the last two years but it has been completely renovated – you won’t recognize the place!  You might even want to show up early and eat in the restaurant.  Those who have say the food is great, the portions are large and the cost is very reasonable.

At the February meeting we will be discussing the club’s plans for 2005. We hope we can get some of you to help out with the OVATVC booth at the ATVand Truck show March 4-6. In addition to selling memberships we will have OVATVC hats and mugs for sale and a raffle for a GPS provided by Pathfinder Maps.
