Valley ATV Club News Letter
October 2006
After a fun filled summer we are coming to the end of our riding season. Many rides and events were held with great success. The executive would like to thank all those individuals that stepped up to organize and help out in each effort. We still have five events remaining this year so dont hang up your helmets quite yet.
7 Oct Club Fun Run
14 - 15 Oct - Megatrax Snowmobile, ATV & Trailer Show
18 Oct Annual General Meeting
28 Oct Club Fun Run
Dec (TBD) Christmas Dinner
Saturday October 7th Fun Run (Members Only)
Rick Walker will be leading this run. On Saturday 7 Oct , we will depart from the weigh scales at Glen Tay at 9AM (just west of Perth on Hwy 7) and head out for a scenic ride along the EOTA rail line towards Marmora. This is a very good time of year to see wildlife. Rick has seen bears on this route many times. The plan was to ride up to the open pit mine in Marmora for a spectacular scenic view. There is very easy route with no road riding so bring a passengers if you want.
Saturday October 28th Fun Run (Members Only)
Michael Pastor will be leading this run. We will meet in the parking lot of the Palmerston Lake Motel beside Alice's at 9:30 AM. We will depart at 10:00 AM. We will be running the Ompah area trails with a planned return time of approximately 4:00 PM. Bring a lunch and dress for the conditions. This will be the last club run of the season so try to attend. Remember, it's a looooong winter!
On the weekend of 14 and 15 Oct the club will have a booth
at the show. The
show is at Lansdowne park and runs from 10AM to 6PM each day. Stop by and visit. Volunteers to man the booth are still needed
for Saturday. If you would like to
volunteer please contact Michael at mpastor@sympatico.ca or 613-839-1692.
On 18 Oct, the club will hold the Annual General Meeting, 7pm at the 7 WEST MOTEL HWY #7, Carleton Place. This is the most important meeting of the year as we need to vote for the new executive. This is your chance to provide your say on who you want to be the club leaders. It is also your chance to lead the club. Candidates for all positions are welcome so step up if you feel you can lead the club to a better future. Current candidates are:
President None yet
Vice President / secretary Rick Walker
Treasurer Dan Vorano
Membership Chair None yet
We will also vote on the acceptance of the Club By Laws. These are attached for your review.
The results of the club survey which was circulated this past summer will be presented and the draw will be held for the $50 gift certificate. All those who responded to the survey will have their name entered in the draw.
The proceeds of the very successful charity run will be presented to the two well deserving charities.
The Treasurer will give us a financial update. Even though the club had a couple unexpected significant expenses this year, we are still in a very good financial state.
This is also a good chance for you to state your views on how the club was run and provide your input for next year. We need maximum turn out to make this meeting meaningful.
The tentative plan is to hold the Christmas dinner at the 7 West Motel again. Everyone that attended last year had a good time and were happy with the meals and service. The date in Dec is still TBD. Hope to see all of you and your significant other there.
OVATVC's
annual run in support of Camp Trillium was held on Saturday September 9. Our
6th event was a smashing success with over 180 registered participants - the
best turnout yet in spite of a slightly drizzly day. Riders were able to do an
easy ride along logging roads or a more challenging bush route on the
Straddlebug trail. The day ended with a BBQ and a draw for the many door prizes
which included a set of ATV tires, ATV boxes, helmets and tools.
By all
measures this was the club's most successful charity event. Participants raised
over $8300, all of which will be donated to charity thanks to the generous
support of the sponsors who covered the cost of the event. Many thanks to the
individuals and businesses that donated prizes, food and money for a great
cause. A very special thanks is due to Patsy Bradley for her tireless work on
the charity event for the last three years, her parents for hosting the ride,
and her dedicated team of volunteers. Bravo !!!
