Know Before You Go

  The OVATVC strongly advocates riding safely, obeying the law and respecting private property. We have collected the following information about ATV laws in Ontario and it's municipalities. It is the ATV rider's responsibility to ensure that they are riding in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations at all times. The OVATVC provides the information below for reference only and we cannot be held responsible for any damages or injury that results from the use of this information.

OVATVC Rules and Regulations

Rule 1 All club members must adhere to Ontario Provincal Law 316/03 in the operation of their ATV.
Rule 2 All club members must ride in a socially and environmentally responsible manner.
- Stay on the trail !
- Respect private property.
- Tread lightly: leave our beautiful wilderness as you found it for all to enjoy.
Rule 3 All club members must operate their machine in the safest possible manner at all times.
Rule 4 All club-sponsored runs are dry runs.  There is NO TOLERANCE for alcohol or drugs while participating in the run.
Rule 5 All riders are required to wear an orange vest or jacket and a DOT approved helmet while participating in the run.
Rule 6 Each person will ride SINGLE FILE with no passing allowed.
Rule 7 All members MUST HAVE registration (ownership) and valid insurance for their machine, and a valid driver's license.
Rule 8 No club ride shall take place or continue without first assigning lead and tail riders who are in contact by radio.
Rule 9 Headlights must be turned on while participating in a group ride.
Rule 10 Each rider is responsible for staying in visual contact with the rider behind them while participating in a group ride.

The Ottawa Valley All Terrain Vehicle Club reserves the right to refuse membership and may revoke membership and/or its privileges at any time. Operators and passengers use the trails at their own risk and shall not hold the OVATVC responsible or liable in any way for injury or damages suffered. The OVATVC is providing the privilege of trail access without any guarantee of service or quality. The OVATVC is a volunteer-based organization with finite resources and manpower; It is not practical or possible to remove all potential hazards from all trails. Operators shall meet all Provincial requirements including having a licensed and insured vehicle and having a valid driver's license or certificate. Operators and passengers shall obey all applicable laws in the use of their ATV. Operators and passengers shall not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol while using the trails. Operators shall ensure that ATV's are operated with appropriate care and control at all times. Operators acknowledge that the OVATVC does not guarantee the accuracy of any published trail maps and that it is the responsibility of the Operator to properly equip themselves with any maps, compasses or GPS units to be used in the navigation of the trails. Weather conditions and trail use will affect trail conditions and ATV operation must be adjusted accordingly. The maximum speed on trails is 50 km/h unless reduced by law or conditions. There may be users on the trail other than ATV'ers. Operators shall stay to the right of the trail notwithstanding that there are no centre lines. Operators and passengers shall understand that ATV trails are not engineered highways. Operators and passengers shall be aware that emergency and cell phone service may not be available. Operators and passengers shall be aware that there are generally no legal requirements for signage on trails and, when provided, it is only for assistance and convenience. Operators and passengers shall dress appropriately for all conditions and must have appropriate safety and emergency equipment at all times.
