News August 2010

Hi All.

It will soon be time to come out and vote for the new executive. As usual all positions are open for nominees.

The current Membership Chair and Treasurer have been at their posts for THREE years and are due to retire. In fact they may be moving from the area making it impossible for them to stay on. During their time in the job they have refined the duties into efficient processes that any one can take on easily. This works well as a couples team as there is a lot of interaction but will also work with two individuals as it has previously.

The VP /Secretary position is a must for this year as well. The incumbent must give up his post this year.

We are looking for someone to take over as webmaster as well. The current webmaster has been cutting and pasting for six years and it's time for some fresh ideas. This position requires good computer skills.

Without replacements for these positions, the club can not exist. The only qualifications required for the positions are basic computer skills and the desire to help the sport of ATVing progress.

It is time for other members to step up and do their share. Many of the current members have taken their turn in the past so I don't think it is fair to ask them to do it again. I have met many of you and know you have the ability to do the job. These jobs do not take a great deal of time, just some dedication.

My preference is to go to the AGM in Oct/Nov with a candidate for each position. I do not want to put someone on the spot at the meeting. If you are interested or just willing to take on one of these critical jobs, contact me and let me know.

Something to think about for next year - I'm willing to stay on as president for another year unless I'm voted out so that we have some continuity. Next year the VP/Sec should stay on and we will elect a new president.

Thank you

Rick W

News June 2010

We are well into a successful riding season. From the Bulletin Board discussions it is clear that those getting out on the rides are having a great time. Don't miss out.

Your Club President (Rick Walker) and Secretary (Anthony Tsoukanas) attended the OFATV Annual general meeting on Sunday 27 June. From this meeting it is clear that the OFATV is working very hard at advancing the sport of ATVing in Ontario.

Some highlights from the AGM:

  • The annual pass is now $150 including HST. The pass base rate actually went down so that the total with HST was a nice round number.
  • There is now a family pass available which provides up to 4 passes for the price of two. All ATVs must be registered at the same address to be eligible for the pass and they must all be purchased at the same time. This is not retroactive.
  • New pass prices come into effect when you buy your next pass.
  • Work to bring EOTA into OFATV is continuing. Our passes continue to be good for EOTA trails.
  • OFATV is making significant progress in reach an agreement with ATV Ontario (Clubs in Northern Ontario and Haliburton) to have a single province wide trail pass.
  • OFATV is working with several other provinces to establish a reciprocation agreement for trail use.
  • This includes Quebec and the Maritimes.

    Other Points:
  • Our OFATV Pass permits our club members to ride on other OFATV Club trails, so don't hesitate to check out the website for the location of these other clubs and give them a try.
  • The Ontario Snowmobile and ATV show will be held in Toronto during October.
  • If you would like to participate as a volunteer at the show let us know. Your transportation and Lodgings will be covered by the club.
  • The club has been asked to provide volunteers for the Camp Quality again this year. The Date is afternoon Sunday 8 Aug. Please see the Club Bulletin Board for details of this very important event.

    News April 2010

The club held its first ride of the year on April 18 and from the looks of things it was well attended. The weatherman cooperated and provided a very pleasant spring day. The group rode from Perth to Kaladar and back on the old rail line. More photos in the  Photo Gallery . Spring Ride.

The OFATV is holding its Annual General Meeting in Morrisburg Sunday June 27 which is open to all OFATV members. There will be a OFATV President's ATV ride hosted by the Nation Valley club on Saturday June 26. The ride starts in Winchester and is also open to OFATV members. Details here.

    News February 2010

Some other reading of interest - Canadian Off Road Vehicle Distributors Council report on what they accomplished in 2009 with the money they are collecting on ATV sales.

    Notice to all OFATV Members

OFATV President Bruce Murphy, has announced that effective immediately the permit reciprocation program with the Quebec ATV Rider Federation (FQCQ) has been discontinued. FQCQ put the OFATV on notice at end of September 2009 that effective October 31st the reciprocation agreement would become null and void. Among other things the FQCQ member clubs felt they were not being adequately compensated for the maintenance required by the additional traffic on their trails. Hopefully the issues can be resolved but its very unlikely to happen for the 2010 riding season.
