The
OVATV Club began as an idea by Brian Leach in October of 1999, and has
now become a reality.
In March of 2000, Neil Bennett was introduced to Brian, and together they
scheduled and planned the May 2000 introduction run. The intention
of this run was to bring people together for a fun weekend, while also
introducing them to the fact that ATV touring can be done safely as a large
group.
The run consisted of 29 ATV machines of all makes and models with 34 riders.
Over the 47 miles of trail (one way) the group enjoyed all types of terrain
imaginable, from roads to mud and flats to mountains. All persons
arrived at the destination resort tired, but unscarred, and only 1 machine
needed assistance for the last 2.5 miles. After cleaning up and having
an excellent meal, most riders returned to their own groups to socialize,
and with the exception of one happy wanderer, most riders crashed into
bed at a reasonable time.
The next morning, although a bit sore, most riders were ready for breakfast
and then to hit the trail for the return trip. Arriving back at our
starting point by late afternoon, most persons loaded up, thanked the organizers
and asked to be contacted if and when this was to happen again. Since
that time, OVATVC has worked very closely with Wayne Southward, who is
President of the Ompah Snowmobile Club (OSC) and received help from Deb
Morrow, to achieve what we are about to announce.
In a joint effort to organize ATV use without trespassing on private land,
the OSC and the OVATVC have agreed to share close to 260 kilometers of
trail, with the OVATVC being responsible for trail up-keep and maintenance
during the off-season from snowmobiling.
In this effort, the OVATVC has informed the OSC that all riders on the
trails will become members of the OVATVC, and have decals displayed on
their machines.
